Glossary :
Reverse stitch/back stitch- You will do this at the beginning of your stitching line and at the end to secure your stitch. To back stitch you will simply hold down the reverse lever or button on your machine and the machine will sew backward.
Notch- notches are cuts to help you match, line up fabric pieces together.
Center front, center back - it shows the middle point of the front and back pieces.
Hem - finished edge of the garment.
Overcast stitch - it’s a special type of the stitch which protects fabric from fraying.
Darts - they are folds (tucks coming to a point) and sewn into fabric to take in ease and provide shape to a garment.
Zipper Foot - can be used for inserting zippers, it allows the needle to stitch close to a raised edge such as the teeth of a zipper.
Invisible Zipper - is a zipper with very fine teeth. It's sewn into a garment in such a way that it makes the zipper invisible, hidden in a seam.
Pull Tab - the part of the slider that is held to move the slider up or down.
Topstitch - finishing stitch on top of an already sewn seam, either decorative or functional. Most often used on garment edges where it helps facings to stay in place and gives a crisp edge.
Crotch seam - is the seam near the crotch of your pants that intersects with the pant leg seam.
Leg inseam - from the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
Right side - This is the outer side of the fabric. On some fabric, it won’t matter, but on many fabrics, there will be a clear difference between the right side and the wrong side.
Wrong side - inner side of the fabric.
Seam allowance (SA) - A seam allowance is the amount of fabric that is between stitch you are sewing and the very edge of your fabric.
